Girls’ Basketball opens with blow out
Sophomore Gillian Foster dribbles the ball down the court and sets up the offense.
The Lady Wildcats won their season-opening game on the road Wednesday, defeating Cocoa Beach 51-19.
This was the first game back following a very successful season, and new coach George Derr plans to continue the winning tradition. The ability to play all of the players and the team’s balanced offensive attack and stifling defense pleased Derr in his debut.
“The team looked very strong on defense and spread the ball around to our three main scorers, Derr said. “We cleared our bench in the second half, and that’s a big accomplishment.”
Lydia Kline led the team in scoring, tallying 19 points. Rebecca Castillo added 17, and Gillian Foster chipped in 13.
The team returns home today when they tackle the Space Coast Vipers. J.V. play starts at 5:30 p.m. and varsity begins at 7 p.m.
