Kicking the ball, freshman Amaefule Chukwunenye prepares for his next game.

The boys’ junior varsity soccer team won their first game of the season 3-1 against St. Cloud. The game was supposed to start at 5:30 but St. Cloud was not on time and the game had to be delayed.

“I was raring to play, getting ready to play and when they showed up thirty minutes late I was not happy,” said freshman Gavin Rushnell.

Athletes use the first game of the season to predict how the rest of the season will go. Rushnell has his concerns but overall thinks it will go well.

“I think we’re going to do good, but we’re a small team so I could already see how we were getting shoved off the ball easily,” said Rushnell. “They were just all over our boys. We’ll get stronger though.”

Junior Kevin Jones enjoyed his first time playing for the school team.

“I feel I did pretty good,” said Kevin Jones. “There were a few moments where I feel like I could have gotten a better touch but overall I think I did pretty solid.”
