Girls’ basketball suffers first loss
The girls’ varsity basketball team was defeated by the Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers with a score of 34-44. Junior Lydia Kline led the team with 16 points, and sophomore Gillian Foster led the the team in rebounds with 12. Coach George Derr thought the match was winnable.
“We were down by six points with around four minutes to play and were in the foul bonus, but we failed to take advantage of it late in the game,” Derr said. “We need to improve our offense in the paint area of the court as well as grab more rebounds on defense to limit our opponent’s offensive opportunities.”
The team is looking to learn from this game and improve in their next match against district opponent Cocoa Beach.
“We will be working on conditioning and strategies for the defense to be more aggressive and the offense to work the ball inside more often,” Derr said.
