Coach Tony Riopelle discusses strategy with the team.

Sophomore Auston Gonzalez led the varsity basketball team with five 3-pointer as the boys slipped past Astronaut 46-43 Thursday night, extending their winning streak to five games.

The 8-3 Wildcats have now beaten Astronaut twice this season.

“Outsmarting Astronaut was the biggest key to beating them,” Gonzalez said. “They had a more athletic team, so we had to execute properly and control the game if we were going to beat them.”

Junior Khalil Paul said he isn’t ready to see the streak end.

“We just have to keep working together and we can’t give up on any plays,” Paul said. “Keeping focus and giving full effort is how we can keep this Wildcat train going.”

The boys next game is tonight at Merritt Island High School.
