Junior Marissa Scalise prepares a rowing scull for an afternoon on the water.

For the first time, Space Coast Crew will host the East Districts regatta Saturday, and rowers are looking forward to the race.

“I am so excited for the team,” Sophomore Meghan Litchfield said. “It is the first real race of the spring season.”

Being the host of it comes with responsibilities.

“I have a feeling this race is going to be hectic,” sophomore Emily Eastwood said. “There is a lot to be done.”

Litchfield also said this regatta will be slightly more hectic than the ones in past years.

“It’s good for us to host the race because for so long many other teams have hosted it,” Litchfield said. “But it is also stressful because we have to get everything right.”

The regatta will be held at Parrish Park in Titusville from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The park is located at 1 A. Max Brewer Memorial Parkway.

More than 1,500 athletes, coaches, volunteers, parents and spectators from nine different rowing programs are expected to attend. Athletes will be representing teams located up and down Florida’s east coast from Daytona Beach to Palm Beach.
