Volleyball sets up for the regular season on Friday

Coming off a 20-5 season, that ended with a loss to Holy Trinity in the Regional Semifinal, the Lady ‘Cats start their season off Friday in the “Wildcat Preseason Jamboree”. Junior and first year varsity player Emily Canavan said she is looking forward to Friday’s preseason games and the rest of the season.

“What I’m looking forward to most is going far into districts,” Canavan said. “And with the games tomorrow we of course want to win, I don’t think anyone on the team wouldn’t play to their full potential just because it doesn’t count, tomorrow will show us our strengths and weaknesses as a team so we’re all looking forward to how the team will play as a whole.”

Returning senior Brianna Joyner is equally excited and confident in her teams abilities heading in to the season.

“My expectations for this year is to try and go undefeated,” Joyner said. “And make it even further [than last year]. I’m hoping we can push hard enough to make it to the final four, and maybe even win State. And as a senior I definitely think I’m expected to step up along with the other seniors and be more of a leader to the rest of the team.”

Rising star, Junior Giao Huynh suffered a torn ACL at the beginning of summer and is out for all of the 2016 season. Even with this big blow to the team Joyner says the team is still confident.

“It’s going to be tough without Giao,” she said. “But I think the team is going to step up and surprise a lot of people this year.”

The Lady ‘Cats play at 6 p.m. against Melbourne High School and 8 p.m. against Bayside High School.
