The boys’ varsity basketball team’s season came to an end with a 70-27 loss to Melbourne Central Catholic in the second round of the Class 5A District 7 tournament Wednesday. The Wildcats end the season at 11-13, following a 62-45 first-round playoff victory against Cocoa on Tuesday, marking first time in school history the Wildcats defeated the Tigers..

Senior Captain Khalil Paul averaged 11.4 points per game along with a total of 165 points on the year.

“We lost nine seniors last year so starting off this year was completely different as we had to push a bunch of new players from junior varsity up to the varsity level,” Paul said. “We were able to go double digits in wins, which is great considering the adversity we faced this year with joining the Cape Coast Conference.”

Sophomore Josh Freeman said the season was full of ups and downs.

“We started the year off well with a huge win against Heritage, which was never before done in school history,” Freeman said. “We went through stretches with streaks of wins and streaks of losses, but we ended the season well by defeating Cocoa and earning a playoff win which only two teams in school history had done before.”
