The boys’ 4×800-meter relay team (Brandon Benitez, Jacob Kent, Christian Hayes, and Grant Gibson), triple jumpers’ Christian Walker and Hunter Tipton, long jumper Christian Walker, 1-mile & 2-mile runner Austin Camps, and 800-meter competitor Jared Hayes will all compete in regional competition. The girls’ 4×800-meter relay team (Maddie McCluskey, Mariah Jones, Cristina Cruz, and Marissa Cruz) and discus thrower Ezinne Chukwunenye will also be competing in regionals.

“Our 4×800-meter team is pretty good,” Gibson said. “We had a good 4×400-meter team but our team doesn’t really consist of sprinters, we’re really more distance people. Even though we have a fast time, our time isn’t fast enough compared to other schools moving on to regionals. In the 4×800-meter, that’s more of a distance relay run, our team is more distance prepped. We took third in the 4/8, behind Merritt Island and Viera, who are really good. We had a good day overall, lots of personal records. We actually had more people than last year move on to regionals, which is really good. Even though we made a  pretty good name for ourselves in districts, we probably wont do as well in regionals because there will be a lot of good teams their, because regionals is down in Miami, so there’s gonna be a lot of fast Miami schools. Austin Camps has a good shot [to go to states] in the two mile, and Christian Walker in the triple jump.”

The regional competition will be April 28th at Blanche Ely High School.
