Goalie Alan Joyner has returned to full strength after being kicked in the eye during the regional quarterfinal against Edgewood on Feb. 3.

The boys’ varsity soccer team will face off against Jacksonville Bolles in a state semifinal game today at 3 p.m. on the Eastern Florida State College Melbourne campus. The winner will meet either Gulliver Preparatory or LaBelle to play for the Class 2A state championship Thursday at 6:05 p.m.

For the second time in school history the boys’ soccer team has made it past the regional tournament and into the final four. In 2012, they won the state final and four of the boys from that team — seniors Darshan Ghayal and Noah Quinones and juniors Alan Joyner and Robert Madden — will be playing today.

“This year we have a much younger team who have proven themselves and shown they can work well under pressure,” Ghayal said. “If we play our best possessive game theres no team that can beat us.”

Madden, on the other hand, sees similarities between this team and the one that won it all three years ago.

“I think there’s no difference between this team and the last state championship team,” he said. “We all play with a lot of heart and pick each other up just like the last state championship team.”

Tickets for today’s game are $9 and in addition to a $5 charge for parking.
