Students share thoughts on ‘THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT’

Students share thoughts on THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT

After the release of Taylor Swift’s new album “THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT,” freshmen Carina Wallace said she connected with the songs.

“Overall, I enjoyed the album a lot,” Wallace said. “A lot of the lyrics were really deep and just something I’m not used to from her music.”

The album was set to contain 16 songs, but at 2 a.m. Swift released 15 more to the surprise of her fans, making it a double album.

“The fact that the album contains 31 songs makes it hard for me to listen to it all and digest it since it is so much,” freshman Belen Castillo said.”I feel like this shows that she has a lot to say and write about since the last time she has released a new album.”

The album has been well-received by critics, with her song “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone taking the Billboard Global 200 top spot.

“My favorite songs from the album were ‘Fortnight’ and ‘So Long, London’ because I like how she showed her emotions through the lyrics and the way the rhythm flowed,” Wallace said.

It has been almost two years since Swift’s last album was released.

“I feel like it is easy to compare this album [to] her past albums and judge it quickly,” Castillo said. “This album is very slow and sad compared to her other albums, and I do wish there were some more fun pop songs included.”
