Wildcat Run scheduled for Nov. 15
In honor of Jim Melia, the Parent Teacher Association is hosting the first Wildcat 5K Race, where participants will be covered in different colors of paint powder while they run. The race will take place on Nov. 15 at West Shore, starting at 5:30 p.m. There’s a $20 race fee and a $2.95 sign-up fee in order to participate; all proceeds benefit the PTA and the American Heart Association. Participants who register by Nov. 1 will receive a free t-shirt.
Cross Country team member and sophomore Hannah Keats said the run is a good way to honor Melia.
“Mr. Melia was a cool guy,” Keats said, “so it’ll be nice to run for him.”
Junior Elissa Gilbert said she enjoys doing 5K races with her family, and that the race will be a fun way to honor Melia.
“I really like my parents participating in the races I do,” Gilbert said. “I think it’s great that the PTA is honoring Mr. Melia this way, and it’ll be a lot of fun.”
PTA Vice President Angelique Jones said that the upcoming event will be a fun, community event.
“We’re planning to have a large amount of West Shore students, their families, faculty, staff and people from all over the community participating in the Wildcat 5K,” Jones said. “It’s going to be a great event.”
