West Shore cheerleaders fire up the crowd at a basketball game.

The cheer team is having two clinics on May 20 and 21, and tryouts will be held May 22 from 3:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. Participants should wear school colors: navy blue, while, silver or grey.

Sophomore Nicole Conde has been on the team for two years.

“We’re like a family and I can be myself with them,” Conde said.

Participants must bring snacks and drinks, a copy of their birth certificate and last report card, a physical form (EL2), and a parental consent form (El3).  All the forms can be found on the school website and must be brought in order to try out. Students — male or female — from any grade may try out.

“We’re very accepting and if you’ve never cheered before, we’ll help you learn to be not only a better cheerleader, but be a better version of yourself,” Conde said.
