Boys’ cross-country excels at UF Invitational
September 29, 2016
Led by senior Austin Camps (16:46 5k) who finished 13th in the race, the cross-country team placed 16th out of 75 teams at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville on Saturday.
“I was very proud of how the team performed,” team captain Grant Gibson said. “It was very hot and humid, and it was a tough race.”
Despite the conditions, three boys ran a new personal best with sophomores Christian Camps (17:27 5k) and Benjamin Pinfield (18:52 5k) each besting their previous time by 10 seconds. Gibson broke his personal record by 0.12 seconds.
“The team is looking good, and we should place runner-up at Districts,” sophomore Christian Camps said. “I am looking forward to the post-season.”
Next week, the team will travel to West Orange High School to race in the West Orange Invitational on Saturday where they are expected to sweep the boys’ races.
