Boys’ basketball begins Spring workouts

The boys’ basketball team is having their first official open gym since the end of their season in February. This year’s spring activities will include conditioning and weight lifting, which is a change from how they have been in the past. Junior David Thompson is excited about being back with his teammates, and optimistic about the benefits of the new training regimen.

“Usually we just play games for a couple of hours,” Thompson said. “It is usually the only time where we can just play pick-up basketball for fun. I always look forward to it because a lot of kids show up and it’s always great to get back on the court with my team.  This year might be different though, because I think only players that are serious about playing or are returning will come out. So it’ll probably be more serious than years past but I think it’ll really get us in shape.”

Junior Juan Rodriguez shares some of Thompson’s thoughts on the changes to the spring workouts.

“I’m hopeful this will help us win more,” Rodriguez said. “Even though we all really love just playing games, the weight lifting and running should help us get in prime shape by the time the season starts.”

The workouts will be Tuesday through Thursday every week until April 28. Although the season does not begin until next school year,  it will be interesting to see how the new training will influence the team’s success this coming fall.
