Robidoux scores game-winner in regional semifinal
February 16, 2018
Junior Collin Robidoux scored the winning goal in overtime to lead the boys’ soccer team past Bishop Moore 1-0 Saturday night in a Class 2A Regional Semifinal.
“I celebrated when I heard the whistle knowing we got the penalty,” Robidoux said. “I tried to stay calm knowing I still had to score for it to matter, and when it went in I couldn’t control my emotion. After that everyone from the bench ran onto the field. It was crazy with all the fans screaming. I’m just happy I can help the team get to the next game.”
Junior Ian Leighton assisted Robidoux’s penalty kick.
“I played Collin a through ball behind the defense into the box,” Leighton said. “Collin was running onto it and the goalie came off his line to go get the ball. Collin then went to go stretch his leg out and toe poked the ball away so the keeper couldn’t touch it. The goalie then tackled Collins’ legs while that happened so the ref called a penalty. After that we all knew it was all on Collin to score the game winning goal.”
The Regional finals will be held at Crescent City High School, against Crescent City on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
