Boys’ tennis opens with new coach
February 10, 2019
Former Melbourne High School tennis coach Dave Kendall recently signed on to lead West Shore’s boys’ tennis. Kendall was the head for the Bulldogs for the past five years.
The coaching position opened when Rick Boysen resigned after seven years when he learned his daughter didn’t get into West Shore via the lottery.
“Last year I remember playing against Coach Kendall,” sophomore Nathan Foo said, “I was excited when I found out he was going to be our new coach.”
The team has been practicing and will open its season Tuesday against Viera High School.
“We’ve been practicing a lot,” sophomore Hunter Scott said, “so I think that we will have a good chance at winning.”
The team has many of the same players as last year, but the line-up is different.
“Last year I played line three,” Scott said, “but this year I am playing line two so the competition will be a lot harder.”
Even though the line-up changed, line two doubles remains the same.
“I like that we are playing together again because it we had all of last year to get good and now we can only get better,” Scott said.
