Physical education teacher Bonnie Bettis has been riding motorcycles since she was 9 years old.

“I am an avid motorcyclist,” she said. “I started when my father brought me home a little Harley Davidson 90 in the back of his pickup truck.” 

During winter months, Bettis rides several times a week.

“I have various friends and some friends who belong to riding clubs, and I’ll go out and ride with them probably two to three times a week,” Bettis said.

Although Bettis is a teacher, her work week doesn’t seem to interfere passion for riding motorcycling.

“My work actually compliments it because I’m active and I’m always doing something with the kids here at school,” she said. “That keeps me in a little bit better shape than I would be if I’m sitting behind a desk somewhere.” 

Bettis currently owns a 2016 Indian Dark Horse.

“Back in 2016 I had the opportunity to trade for an Indian, and I’m not turning back,” she said. “I love it.”

Bettis has been teaching for  29 years, and is one of four teachers on campus who was hired when the school first opened.

“My favorite thing, overall is the students that are here,” Bettis said. “We have students that care about learning and they also have parents that are actively involved in their lives, and they care that they succeed. The students are why I’ve come back every year.”
