Boys’s soccer wins school’s first conference title

The boys’ varsity soccer team won the school’s first-ever Cape Coast Conference championship Thursday by defeating archrival Edgewood 3-2. Seniors Ian Leighton and Cameron Yuetter along with junior Matthew Rabel each scored.
What looked like a sure victory turned into a nail-biter after the Wildcats allowed an easy goal with 20 seconds remaining.
“I think it’s a big step forward for West Shore athletics and I think it’s a big win for us as a team,” junior goalkeeper Cooper Stein said. “It’s only our second year in Cape Coast Conference and to come in as the ‘nerd school’ and win was huge.”
This victory will certainly raise confidence within the players, as the team will be playing the first district game against Astronaut on Friday.
“This is a great mindset to have right before entering districts,” junior striker Leighton Johnson said. “A prestigious win such as this one is surely going to give the team momentum for the next upcoming games.  I am filled with great hopes and expectations for the team going forward.”
