Newcomb nabs Critics Choice award

Madison Newcomb (12) was on the edge of her seat, along with the rest of Theatre Troop 6034, to see who would be getting Critic’s Choice, a prestige award for those who were the best of the best in show performance and for tech.

When Newcomb heard her name called at the district competition in St. Cloud on Saturday, she was elated.

“I got so excited that I ran up on stage,” she said.

Newcomb received the honor for her costume designs for the Broadway-based musical “Miss Saigon.”

Newcomb shared her excitement with the theatre troupe as they all congratulated her achievement.

“I was so happy because she is so talented and she worked so hard on those costume designs,” Ethan Rebec (11) said. “When I heard her name, I just erupted. Everyone was just so happy for her and it was such a cool experience since I’ve never seen anyone from our group win Critic’s Choice. I’m just so happy and she deserved it.”

Newcomb’s award allows her to present her costume design at the theatre state competition this year. She will present her designs three times, in front of 4,000 people each time. This allows Newcomb to not only to meet new people, but also to get her name around in the theatre industry. One day we may even see her on live TV.
