The boys’ bowling team is nearing the end of the season, and with the end comes tournaments. The team has a district tournament scheduled for Tuesday at Palm Shore Lanes. The imminent tournaments have the athletes practicing their skills to get the best play possible.

“The main thing right now is consistency,” senior Ayush Maddikonda said. “We’ve been practicing spare shooting as well as being more consistent in hitting our mark when we’re throwing our strike shots. Overall we just want to be able to do the same thing over and over again.”

Coach Heather Da Silva said the team is improving exponentially.

“We’ve been working a lot on — weirdly enough — patience because people want to get up there,” Da Silva said. “They want to throw this big fabulous shot. And yeah, this is a case of no matter how badly you want to, you’ve got to line up your shot. It burns my soul a little bit to say, but there’s a lot of physics involved. There’s a lot of geometry involved, where you have to look at the lane conditions. You have to look at what the ambient temperature is. You’ve got to take a look at a number of different factors.”

Maddikonda has high expectations for his team’s district tournament.

“I have the full belief that we’re going to, as a five-man team, score higher than we do in the regular season,” he said. “I think a lot of us are starting to make those arrangements and everything should start coming together soon.”

The bowlers not only prepares for the upcoming events during practices but also in their free time.

“So every day I practice. I’ve been trying to do drills, going up there, and taking advice from the other teammates,” sophomore Nicholas Schroeder said. “So far that’s been pretty much my main goal, weekends at other bowling alley practices, then I practice every Saturday and bowl about three games.”
