Wildcats upend Bulldogs 3-2

Junior Ben Lack scored two goals and junior Nick Ingana added another as the boys’ junior varsity soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit entering the final five minutes to a 3-2 victory against Melbourne High on Monday night.

In the final two minutes, Ingana scored after dribbling past three of Melbourne’s players. Mel scored again just before the final whistle blew, but it was too late.

“The game was a nail-biter. It took us to the last few minutes to finally equalize and then go on to win it,” Ingana said. “Both of Ben’s goals came off of long balls over the top, and he flew past the defense.”

The victory marked the first time the boys’ soccer team has ever beaten Mel-High. To some players it was more than just a game. Some of the players play on the same club team and are good friends with the opponents.

“When Ben scored his first goal we were going crazy,” sophomore Jack Sandberg said. “After he scored we knew we were going for the win and not settling for the tie.”

The Wildcats next game is on Friday against Edgewood at home
