Students to participate in art festival

Students in the art department are gearing up for the upcoming Eau Gallie Artworks Festival scheduled for  Nov. 23-24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Eau Gallie . This event allows students to show off their artistic abilities through various competitions, such as the sidewalk chalk contest. Also, students can create and sell artwork. Many AP students’ work such as still life and self portraits will be on display.

Art teacher Matt Henderson said he has had students in this event for the two years he had been teaching at West Shore. He said that between eight and 20 students plan to participate and they can earn up to 16 hours of community service. He also said it takes most students between two weeks and a month to complete the artwork that they want to enter into the show.

“Last year it was really fun because I liked demonstrating my skills,” junior Peyton Oller said. “ It was nice to inspire kids and have people come up to you and say ‘wow, that looks so cool.’”
