In preparation for the Friday’s baccalaureate service at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, senior Tyler McIntyre practices playing alto saxophone. McIntyre and other member of the jazz band, including Jason Nemeroff, Laith Rukab, Luke Marzano and Oliver Grimes opened the ceremony with a prelude of jazz standards. Others musicians performing at the event were Cara Dubec-Hunter, Jadasia Norris, Alice Chan, Christina McBride, Taylor Donavan, Catherine Tenbush, Ahjaney Friar and Andrew Leonard.
“I always look forward to playing sax in the combo, jazz band is really fun, especially in my solo. the concert pieces are very cool,” McIntyre said. “I didn’t take band for two years which I regret. [Band director Christopher] Houze is an awesome teacher and a great guy and, as he always says, ‘we love band.’”
Baccalaureate is a one-hour religious service honoring the graduating class.
