JV girls’ soccer prepares for season kickoff

The girls’ JV soccer team tryout results have just been announced, and new coach Mike Lord has chosen a team consisting of 18 players. They began their practices on Oct. 20 and are scheduled to play their first game is against Rockledge on Nov. 9.

After finishing last season with a 5-1-2 record, Lord said he wants the players to work even harder.

“The expectation of the group is to train hard and compete to the best of their ability,” Lord said.

He said the team needs to work on specific skills.

“There are tactical and technical elements that need to develop,” Lord said. “As with all new teams, they need to develop trust in each other, encourage each other and believe.”

Freshman Sela Horgan, who plays forward on the team, adds to this thought.

“I feel like we might need to work on communication while we are playing,” she said.

Lord said he hopes to see improved teamwork among the players.

“I am depending on the entire team,” he said. “I expect that they trust and encourage each other to be the best player and teammates that they can be.”

Freshman Violet Castillo, one of the defensive players, is confident in this.

“I think everyone is so nice and we will all work well together,” Castillo said. “I already know most of them. Some of them are even on my club team.”

Horgan said she believes the team is already well on its way.

“All of the players are really strong,” Horgan said. “There is definitely a lot of potential within the team.”
