Boys’ varsity opens season with 37-43 victory

After the boys’ varsity basketball team defeated the Space Coast Vipers 37-34 in the season-opener Tuesday, junior Gunther Rogers said he felt like the team did many great things together as a whole.

“The game went well, we communicated well, passed well and ran our plays well,” he said. “We also played through bad calls instead of falling apart. Most importantly, we got our first dub [win].”

Despite all these accomplishments, Rogers said  the team could benefit from better offense.

“We should improve on running our plays, better offense, and ball movement,” he said.

Sophomore Camden Garoust pointed to areas that need improvement.

“We should have had [fewer] turnovers because those turnovers just led to missed opportunities to score,” he said. “We should have passed better, the game was pretty sloppy.”

Garoust also the team could benefit from better shooting and rebounds.

“We should have made more shots,” he said. “Those missed opportunities led to defensive rebounds. We ran our defense effectively, but it still needed some work.”
