Boys JV basketball prepares for today’s tryouts

The boys’ JV basketball team members have been gearing up for their tryouts this afternoon.  Returning students trying out could either make JV again, or be moved up to varsity. New students will have the chance to be on either team but no one is guaranteed a spot.

“We have had many Saturday practices and do drills for a fair portion of time. “After those drills, we play real game-like scrimmages for more practice,” sophomore Trey Hatter said.

The team has also been working on endurance by doing drills such as suicides, which is an act of running back and forth across the court.

“The coaches have really been pushing us to try our hardest and try to exceed our past goals,” Hatter said.

Sophomore Yogi Patel said he has continued to practice at home in an attempt to further his preparation for the tryouts.

“I like to play basketball outside of school either by myself or with my friends so I can practice,” he said.

Many athletes trying out are returners from last year’s squad who enjoyed their time on the team.

“I have a really fun time playing with the team, and being able to challenge myself really makes me feel like I’m making improvements in my personal skills,” Patel said.
