Last year’s winter chorus concert.

The school choir has decided to mix in a fall chorus concert in replace of their usual annual winter concert.

Chorus teacher Amy Davis announced plans to audition for the upcoming All-County choir event for high school and middle school, in which participants prepare their own music. Similarly, auditions have already been sent in for the All-State choir event. Davis is also preparing students for an audition on Monday to perform at Disney Springs, likely to take place in January, where the choir would sing music of  its own choice. To tie it all up, Davis anticipates the fall concert, which is set to take place Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium.

“We always have things going on,” Davis said. “This is the first time we’ve ever done a fall concert instead of a winter concert. Peace and unity is the theme, but there may also be a few Christmas or winter things put at the end. We are also waiting back on All-State choir results, and we have two students running for that, Laura Shelton (10) and Chase Bost (11).”

According to Shelton, lots of studying and memorizing was involved in the preparation for All-State.

“Kids all over Florida take a written test and a sight-reading test, then after that, they have to study and memorize six songs and perform those songs to two judges,” Shelton said. “In January, the best kids are selected from that last test, and they go perform and sing on a selected morning.”

Shelton now awaits the results of her audition.

“I haven’t been selected yet, but I’ve done the first part of the testing and I made it through that.” Shelton said. ” I just did the second part, so now I have to wait for them to release who has been selected. It would be great if I made it in, but we’ll see.”
