St. Patrick’s Day parade set for Saturday

Brevard County’s 29th annual St. Patrick’s Day parade will be taking place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Downtown Melbourne.

“Every year me and my family go to the parade,” sophomore Andrea Cumba said. “We usually go eat and watch all the people who dressed up.”

The parade will be held on New Haven Avenue from Mustard’s Last Stand to Depot Dr. at the railroad tracks. This year there will be two new categories, local marching bands and “Celtic Dogs.” To get a chance for your band or dog to march in the parade, contact Todd McDonald at [email protected] and visit https://www.aohbrevard.org/2019-st-patrick-s-day-parade for an application.

“If there’s a chance to see a whole bunch of dogs, who wouldn’t jump at the opportunity,” sophomore Tatum Berard said.

Other activities will include all-day bagpipers, Irish dancers and the bands Katty Shack, Greg and Brian and Chair O’Doherty.

“I think it’s a nice way to celebrate a holiday that many people just ignore,” Cumba said.
