MS runners gear up for championship meet

Satellite High School will be hosting the middle-school track championship meet Monday at 11 a.m.

“I will be competing in the mile and half mile,” eighth-grader Hayden D. said.

The championship meet is the biggest meet of the year and will have all of the schools in the district competing.

“Yes the competition will be more difficult,” Hayden said.  “There is always another person faster than you in these championships meets.”

After racing the same people all season, Hayden said he is not worried about anyone in particular and is confident that he will race well and make his team proud.

Hayden’s teammate, Isaiah T., also looks forward to racing.

“Next Monday I will be racing in the 200 meter relay,” he said.

Since this meet will be the biggest of the year, it will be run more officially and will have official timers.  The Satellite coach is also the high school track coach so he is used to running things smoothly and getting down accurate times.

“Delaura, Central and Hoover are going to be there,” Isaiah said.  “We will probably have better competition on Monday than we have had earlier in the season.”
