High-school awards night set for Thursday

The annual high-school awards ceremony will be held Thursday to recognize students achievement from throughout the year. It will be held at the auditorium and will begin at 6:30 p.m. Dress should be business casual.

“I think it is always important to acknowledge successes of our students especially the teachers who want to acknowledge what students have done,” Assistant Principal Lisa Kratz said. “It is just a positive outlook to see how much our students have done and the success they have created. It is important that we share with one another and have a positive support. It is more of an outlook of supporting one another and being happy for one another and their accomplishments.”

Kratz said the awards fall into to three categories.

“The big awards that will be presented is our straight A’s with our students for each grade level, but we also support community service hours if they got 100-plus hours throughout the school year,” Kratz said. “Finally, the last award is subject area and special awards were the departments pick the student that they feel have done very well in their subject area.”

Sophomore Elizabeth Marrin said she thinks it is important for students to be recognized.

“I feel that it is important for students to be supported for the achievements that they accomplished,” Marrin said. ” If students aren’t recognized, I think it shows that the school doesn’t have a positive backing for the students to achieve greater things in the future.”
