Cross-country banquet concludes season

After placing 21st out of 24 teams at state Nov. 5, the boys’ cross-country team held its end-of-season banquet Thursday.

Some runners looked forward to future seasons, while four seniors on the team said goodbye to the team.

For Austin Camps, Grant Gibson, Christian Hayes and Tyler Adams, this would be their final cross-country banquet.

Gibson, one of the two varsity captains, saw his season end early due to a hip injury.

“It was disappointing that I was only able to run half the season, but I’m happy with my personal record and enjoyed supporting the team for the rest of the season,” Gibson said.

Because of the loss of the four seniors, many wonder if West Shore will still have a state-level team next season, but Coach Greg Hayes remains confident.

“We aren’t rebuilding the team, we are just reloading it,” Hayes said. “There are plenty of younger runners that will be great, and we already have a solid varsity lineup for next season.”
