Varsity basketball falls to Holy Trinity

The boys’ varsity basketball team fell to Holy Trinity 63-18 in an away game Thursday night.

Despite the loss, shooting guard Jack Boucher, a sophomore, said he used the crowd’s support as motivation.

“Throughout the game I was eager to play them, and I was pumped because I saw that there was a pretty good showing in the stands,” Boucher said, “It pushed me to play harder. I made sure to not give up on any plays and stay in the game the whole time no matter what.”

Coach Corey Burton said he was proud of his team.

“We have a lot of competitive spirit in them and they are very good basketball players,” he said.

Boucher was concerned because as a private-school program, Holy Trinity’s basketball team can recruit players.

“I’m more nervous about Holy Trinity and Mel high,” Boucher said. “Because they are always known as the powerhouses.”

Before the game assistant  coach David Thompson said he thought the game would be competitive.

“[Holy Trinity] is a very well-run program,” Thompson said. “They have a lot of good athletes there, but I think we can definitely compete.”

Burton said he was nervous about how his players would handle the pressure.

“It’s tough on the kids and it’s tough especially with a school like this,” he said.

However, Boucher said he views the  loss as a learning opportunity.

“It’s just pushing us to get better,” he said. “Obviously none of us likes to lose and it’ll sit with us until we make up for it against another team.”
