Guidance Department Director Kimberly Strauch keeps it all in the family.

“My husband, myself, and all of my brother and sister in laws are all teachers and coaches,” Strauch said. “Education and sports are passions in my family.”

Strauch was appointed as the director of guidance last summer after working as a guidance counselor for 10 years and an athletic director for two. Strauch also taught AP Psychology for five years at another school. She replaces Mike Drake who now runs the media center.

Strauch is well-prepared to serve in her new role.  She earned an undergraduate degree in social science with a concentration in psychology from Eastern Illinois University and a master’s degree in school counseling from Concordia University in Chicago.

“My high-school guidance counselor helped me make the connection between psychology and education,” Strauch said. “She made me want to become a counselor to help kids.”

During her time working as a guidance counselor, Strauch said she has formed a positive and productive relationship with her students who have welcomed her selection as the new Guidance Department Director.

“Mrs. Strauch has always been extremely helpful in assisting me with planning my schedule and addressing my academic needs,” senior Lance Stern said. “She is the perfect choice to lead the guidance department.”

Although Strauch enjoyed her time working as a guidance counselor, she is excited and prepared for the challenges that await her in her new role.

“My favorite aspect of being a guidance counselor is seeing student growth during their time here and helping them work through personal struggles.” Strauch said.  “As Director of Guidance, I am now part of the school’s leadership team and will play a greater role in the decision-making process.”
