Key-Beta Club focuses on poverty projects

The Key and Beta Club has begun to host fundraising events at school to benefit community organizations.

“The Key and Beta Club, we’re a community service club, so our main purpose is fundraising, donating and doing things that will help our community,” club president and senior Hana Saleh said. “We most recently did the Pie-A-Teacher fundraiser in which we raised around $155 for the Children’s Hunger Project.”

The club has placed a focus on poverty and will continue to raise awareness through similar events.

“I did research on poverty organizations and chose which one was best,” Saleh said. “We chose the Children’s Hunger Project this year because we have a Children’s Hunger Club on campus, so it will be easy to coordinate fundraisers.”

The Key and Beta Club will continue to host and organize events held in previous years.

“We help organize the school’s blood drive,” sophomore and club webmaster Regan Faherty said. “We also are responsible for the donations for Toys for Tots which is an organization that gives less fortunate children presents for the holidays.”

The blood drive is scheduled to take place in January while the Toys for Tots toy drive date has yet to be determined.

“The benefits are aiding the community and causes that we are passionate about, as well as areas that have been recently affected by disasters,” Faherty said. “It is such a good feeling, helping others, because even if it seems small, we are making a difference in someone’s life.”
