Johnson signs to play lacrosse at University of Tampa

Senior Zack Johnson signed to the University of Tampa to play Division 2 lacrosse Tuesday.

Johnson said that the recruiting process went smoothly.

“The main way I got recruited was through playing with the organization True Lacrosse on both True Florida and True National Green,” he said. “Those teams attend the top events in the country and play against the top teams, so naturally college coaches are watching us play on the sidelines.”

The True National Green 2023 team’s final ranking was No. 8 in the nation.

Senior Gavin Litchfield said Johnson picked up lacrosse unusually quickly.

“He first started playing lacrosse when we were in sixth grade which is later that normal for someone on his level,” he said. “I knew he was going to be special when he picked up the game faster than I’d seen anyone else do it.”

Johnson plans to study medicine in college.

“I plan on going into the Allied Health field,” he said. “Specifically into medical sciences and human performance.”

Litchfield said he supports Johnson and his accomplishments.

“He absolutely deserves it because I have not seen anyone work as hard and have the same level of dedication as him,” he said.
