West Shore swimmers travelled to compete in some major meets during the last two weeks, including the YCF Winter Classic and the Auburn meet. These meets were against numerous teams in the eastern United States.

Most of the swimmers dropped times and made personal records in the events they competed in, even if they didn’t place in that event.

“I broke my personal records in the 50 free and 100 backstroke at the YCF meet,” freshmen Sydney Weatherspoon said.

In the Auburn meet over the Martin Luther King weekend, there was about 300 hundred people competing.

“I did really well because I dropped more time than I expected I could in multiple races,” sophomore Dylan Gornto said. “I was especially excited about my 200 IM time at this meet.”

These swimmers are also excited about the prospect of breaking school records, which Weatherspoon has already done in one of her events.

“My 200 IM time makes me 2.5 seconds away from breaking the school record,” Gornto said. “I can easily drop the time to break the record over the off-season.”
