Boys’ soccer wins three games despite suspensions

The boys’ varsity soccer season took an unexpected turn after four starting senior received six-game suspensions for a fight during the Viera High game last month. Three Hawks also were suspended.

The boys who got suspended will not be able to play on their Senior Night. The first game back that these boys will be able to play in will be the district finals.

“Even though me and a couple other teammates of mine are suspended I still believe that we will be ready to return to districts so that we can make a deep run in the playoffs,” Mateo Villanueva said.

The fight took place near the end of the game when two players went for the ball and began shoving each other. This led to both teams joining in and throwing punches.

Since the suspensions, the team has gone on a three-game winning streak, defeating Merritt Island 3-1, Heritage 2-1 and Titusville 7-0. The Wildcats’ record is 9-2-2.

“I am thankful for all of my teammates who stepped up and filled in the spots,” Villanueva said. “I am excited to be able to return back for districts.”

The team will next take on Cocoa tonight at 7 on the West Shore field.
