Matt and Kim will headline the FIT Homecoming Fest.

Anyone who loves free, live music is in for treat this upcoming week. Florida Tech is having its annual Homecoming Fest, and part of it involves a free concert headlined by Matt and Kim. The show will take place in Downtown Melbourne on Nov. 6.

Matt and Kim are an indie pop band, known for their high energy shows and energetic, ‘DIY’ attitude for music. Their best known track, “Daylight” reached the Hot 100 chart on Billboard, has been played in TV commercials and was preformed on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show. The dynamic duo is composed of Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino.

“We’ve been doing the Homecoming Fest for years now, and it just keeps getting bigger,” Almuni Engagement Officer Stevie Pursell said. “More people want to be involved with it, and different people around the community contact us and want to help, so it’s really great. A lot of people are excited about it.”

The concert is open to the general public, and will last from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.

“I think the concert is going to be so fun, I love the atmosphere of concerts in the first place, and the fact that it’s free is also really great.” Junior Alyssa S. Feliciano said. “I’ve never been to an Florida Tech Homecoming Fest, so I’m pretty excited to see how it goes.”

The Homecoming Fest and the 22nd annual Melbourne Main Street Fall Festival happen to coincide, providing more activities for those attending.

“There’s going to be a lot more vendors, and we’re bringing the FIT dragster down there, so that’ll also be on display for people to check out,” Pursell said. “Main Street has always been great to work with us and try to make sure that everything works and that everybody is happy. Everybody just wants to have a great event, so it’s nice when that is the common goal.”
