Swimmers confident heading into regionals

Sophomore Ben Castillo and junior Christian Camps are just two of the nine members of the boys’ swim team that will be competing in the Class 1A Regional Meet at Lake Highland Prep in Orlando on Saturday.

“We’ve been preparing for Regions, not just after Districts, but all season,” Castillo said. “Everyone has been pushing each other to improve all year, so I think we’ll do good.”

The boys won their first ever District Runner-Up trophy on Wednesday. Many of them are hoping to maintain this by performing just as well at Regions.

“We have a smaller team now because some guys didn’t qualify for Regions and also the competition is going to be tougher than it was at Districts,” Camps said. “But even if we don’t place high overall as a team, I think everyone will do really great individually because we are all really strong swimmers.”

Many of the swimmers are looking forward to regions and excited about the possibility of achieving qualifying times and advancing to the state competition in Stuart on Nov. 4.

“A lot of the guys have a really good chance of placing high in their events,” Castillo said. “If I and the other guys qualified for state, I would be super excited because none of us have yet.”
