Senior Austin Camps outpaces all other runners in the 5 km race

Austin Camps recorded a time of 16:33:00 in the 5,000 meter race, earning him first out of 171 runners at the West Orange Invitational this past Saturday. Sophomore Christian Camps and junior Jared Hayes claimed 7th and 14th respectively, helping the Wildcats to win the top spot out of the 21 competing high schools.

“[We] did excellent this weekend at West Orange,” Hayes said. “We had three people in the top 15, so that helped lead us to first. We also had the top three finishers in JV, and five in the top ten, so we also won the JV race. Almost all of us ran our season best times, so we were happy with that. It was a fast course and it was not hot outside, so conditions were great.”

The Lady Wildcats grabbed sixth place at West Orange, led by seventh-grader Jessica M. in 21st place, and sophomore Amaris L’Heureux in 33rd.

Both teams will meet this Saturday at the Sebastian River Invitational, beginning at 7 a.m.
