Montverde shuts out girls’ soccer team

The girls’ soccer team lost to the Montverde Academy Eagles 4-0 Tuesday, but the result didn’t come as a complete surprise.

“Monteverde is the strongest team we will play all season,” sophomore Elena Barr said. “So many of them are foreign and already playing professionally, so we knew going into the game we needed to come out strong.”

The Lady Wildcats were originally scheduled to play Monteverde on Nov. 6, but due to transportation issues, the Eagles were unable to make it from Orlando to Melbourne and had to reschedule.

“We came out weak in the first half for sure,” junior Luisa De La Hoz said. “Monteverde showed up very close to the start of the game, and a lot of us thought they might have broken down again, so I think it took a while for us to get back into the game mindset.”

Monteverde scored all four goals in the first half, making it difficult for the Lady Wildcats to stay positive at times.

” We really picked it up in the second half,” Barr said. “We didn’t let in any goals, which was a very big accomplishment for us.”
