Lacrosse falls short after strong start

Junior Chris Johnson scored three times and junior Zane Sanders scoring once before halftime, but the boys’ lacrosse team lost 11-6 at home against Holy Trinity on Tuesday night through a continuous rain. After the half, Sanders scored again, and junior Duncan Schwarze also scored a goal.

“We started out strong,” Johnson said. “We played probably the best first half we’ve played so far this season.”

Johnson, in particular, had a successful game, with a faceoff win percentage of 82. Eighth-graders Zach J. and Hayden M. had several assists each.

“The team as a whole has been getting better as the practices and games go,” freshman Alex Spak said.

One highlight of the game was Schwarze scoring his first goal. He joined the team this year.

“It was very exhilarating,” Schwarze said. “The whole team cheered after the goal was made and were extremely supportive.”

Johnson said he was impressed by Schwarze’s goal.

“It’s great to see that the newer players are picking up the sport quickly,” he said. “Now our team just needs to be a little more physical, because if you’re not aggressive playing lacrosse, you won’t win.”

The team next plays at John Carroll Catholic on Monday at 6 p.m.
