Dance team celebrates end of the year

The Purr-fections dance team celebrated its season with the annual end of the year party Friday.

“It’s nice to be able to come together as a team to look back on our season together and to get our varsity letters and awards,” sophomore Michelle Smith said.

Members of the JV dance team received participation awards while the varsity dancers received letters. Freshmen Alicia Ortiz, Michelle Maldonado, Erin Sheridan and eighth-grader Mattie S. became first-year lettermen.

”It felt good to know that all my hard work this season finally paid off,” Sheridan said. “It is great to say I have a varsity letter.”

Sheridan also received the Most Improved Dancer award.

“It was nice to know that my coach and captains saw the extra effort I put in,” she said.

Smith received the Wildcat Award which is for the member of the team who, according to Coach April Shaw, who represents the Wildcats in the best possible way.

“It felt great to know that our coach appreciates all the little things the team does to help out,” Smith said. “And it is nice to know that even though I was hurt, I was still important to the team.”

The end of the year party marked the official conclusion to the dance team season. Preparations for next year begin Friday with officer tryouts for the varsity team.
