NJHS helps with Thanksgiving fund-raiser

Every year for the past five years, Brilliant Smiles Orthodontics has held a fund-raiser for families to supply them with a Thanksgiving meal, including ham, potatoes, vegetables, dinner rolls and a dessert. Each meal costs $25.25 to make and distribute to a family, and the goal was to make $5,000 and supply 650 Brevard families with a meal.

Junior Honor Society’s sponsor Anthony Raheb decided to take part by having each member bring in $1 to go towards the fund-raiser.

“I’m happy to see all of our active members taking part and helping the community,” Raheb said. “It really shows what National Junior Honor Society is all about.”

Along with the club’s $31, the current total for all of the funds raised is $16,564, far surpassing fund-raiser goal. With this amount of money, 656 families in Brevard County can be given a meal for Thanksgiving.

“I found out about the fund-raiser because Ms. Janice [Kowing] in the front office sent out an E-mail to all the staff saying that any club interested could participate,” Raheb said.

All members in National Junior Honor Society met in Raheb’s room at Portable 3 for a social event to collect money and inform members of upcoming events.

“We all got together and we ate and collected money for the fund-raiser we did,” National Junior Honor Society President Faith Collins said. “It was a lot of fun and it was all for a good cause.”

Those interested can still donate to the Go Fund Me at bit.ly/kidzmeals2019 to help a local families.
