Holiday spirit: Nutcracker showing at the King Center

The holiday classic The Nutcracker will be presented by Space Coast Ballet at the King Center on Saturday, Dec. 7. There will be two showings: one at 2:00 p.m. and the other at 7:00 p.m.

A couple of the students from West Shore have been participating in the Nutcracker for several years and according to freshman Hope Dougherty, the show is always a success.

“I’ve been doing it [The Nutcracker] since kindergarten and it’s my absolute favorite time of year,” Dougherty said. “It’s so much fun because I love being onstage performing and also backstage because I get to spend time with some of my best friends. It’s a great show that shouldn’t be missed.”

Galmont Ballet will also be performing the classical ballet Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 21 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and on Dec. 22 at 2:00 p.m.  Freshman Melek Turkman, who is a former dancer at Galmont Ballet, has been doing the Nutcracker for about six years now.

“I absolutely adore the Nutcracker,” Turkman said. “It’s always one of my favorite ballets to dance. It gets me into the holiday spirit and I’d feel empty if we didn’t do it.”
