Fashion show makes for charitable Senior Project

Senior Joanne Lawrence is doing her Senior Project on something she loves most: fashion.

“I kind of have known it since seventh grade that I was going to do a fashion show,” Lawrence said. “I just didn’t know how I was going to put it all together.”

Lawrence put the project together by herself, so in order to put the event fully together she got her job and her friends involved to help out.

“I’m supplying the clothes [for the show] from the store that I work at, which is Downtown Divas Melbourne,” she said. “Most of the models that will be walking down the runway either work at Downtown Divas or are just friends from other schools.”

But the show is about more than fashion.

“It’s for the Children’s Hunger Project, which is a local charity here in Brevard,” she said. “[The funds from] the show will go to help children that are on the free lunch program at their schools and receive food on the weekends and after school.”

Senior Gianni Valenti expressed admiration for Lawrence’s fashion show.

“When you do a show, you’re creating a brand, you’re creating an atmosphere and you’re marketing your clothes,” he said. “Not only is she a great stylist herself, but she knows how to style others. It’s a really good combination of all those interests.”

The fashion show will be held at Open Mikes’ Coffee Lounge on Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets prices range from $10 to $15.
