Thespians gear up for districts

Thespians have their schedules packed as they prepare for events including musicals and districts within the next few months.

Senior Gage Huff is excited to be practicing for districts again after a year off due to COVID-19.

“I’ve done districts a few times in the past and it’s been pretty fun,” he said. “We’ve been pretty successful in the past, and I hope our large group event goes to the state level like it has done before.”

Sophomore Arabella Dias also expressed confidence in the troupe’s abilities.

“I expect everyone will do well, which is what usually happens,” she said.

Thespians also are preparing for upcoming musicals, one of which recently was changed. The spring musical, “The Sound of Music” has been changed to “Mama Mia.”

“I’m really disappointed that it was changed because I really wanted to do ‘Sound of Music’ but ‘Mama Mia’ sounds like it will be just as much fun,” Dias said.

Gage shared similar sentiments.

“I was very excited to do ‘Sound of Music,” he said. “Its a great musical and seemed like it could be lots of fun, but ‘Mama Mia’ lends itself better to a school production because the ensemble plays a bigger part than in ‘Sound of Music.’ At the end of the day I’m always going to be excited doing a production because I enjoy the overall experience more than specific shows.”
