Spring musical ‘Carousel’ set for March 29-30

The spring musical “Carousel” will be performed by a cast of all high school students March 29-30 in the school auditorium.

“The show is about a woman named Julie Jordan that falls in love with a man who runs a carousel, Billy Bigeolow,” sophomore Shannon Kay said. “It shows their life together and how Billy makes decisions that affect Julie and her best friend’s lives.”

While the show remains two weeks away, Spring Break, including the theater state competition will complicate preparations.

“We are still figuring everything out and putting scenes together, but I’m not worried, ” junior Sabrina Torres said. “We are really good at refining and getting everything straightened out during tech week and the shows always turn out good.”

Tech week is the busiest week for the students preparing for the show.

“It’s every day after school leading up to the show that week and you have to be in costume ready to go and eaten by five,” Torres said. “Then we practice and run the show until 9 p.m. for the week.”

Torres has been cast as Carrie Pepperidge, Julie’s best friend, primarily a comedic-relief character.

“In the show you find out that she falls in love with a man named Enoch Snow, who is played by Dylan O’Brien,” Torres said. “You get to see some of their life together through one of the songs called ‘When The Children Are Asleep.’ That is the first glimpse into their future where Carrie gets kind of scared because Enoch, for the first time, tells her that he wants a lot of kids which is funny in the show.”

The tickets can either be purchased at showtix4u.com or purchased at the door for $5 with a student discount.
