Boys’ basketball takes down Edgewood 62-48

Sophomore Bennet Kent scored a team high of 21 points to lead the varsity boys’ basketball team to a 62-48 victory against rival school Edgewood on Friday night.

Senior Travis McClendon said the boys put much effort into this game.

“I think we all did very well with stopping their leading scorers on the team,” he said. “We knew that this was a huge game for Edgewood, as they have had a rough season. We expected them to give their all and try to get a big win on their home floor.”

The victory was the team’s sixth consecutive against Edgewood.

“At this point, it seems as if they aren’t even much of rivals anymore,” junior Zack Shahzad said. “We look forward to playing and beating the bigger schools in the county and competing with them more than we did in the past because we believe we have the ability to do so.”

The Wildcats next take on the Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers in a road district match Monday night at 7 p.m.
