Space Coast Crew prepares for states

Following its trip to Tampa Bypass Canal to compete at the Florida Sprints League Regatta on April, 14 Space Coast Crew had a two-week break from racing to prepare for states on April 28 and 29. Failing to perform at Sprints League, Space Coast Crew had to give up many shirts and had to scrap the V8 race and change coxswains due to rowers and coxswains having to leave early for Prom.

Senior Lily McKnight talked about the Space Coast Crew not doing to well at FSL but training to do better at states.

“Sprints League wasn’t the best because of the way lineups were determined and the actual boast we raced had little to no practice,” she said. “However, our preparation for states are above and beyond how we handled majority of our regattas, and I think will result in a great races in Sarasota.”

Sophomore Slater Rhodes spoke about how the lineups given were not the fastest and were the downfall at the regatta.

“I don’t know really because we got lineups like the day before the race and there were people who were in the 4V who should’ve been in the 3V which slowed us down and affected us negatively,” he said.

Space Coast Crew will travel to Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota next week to compete at FSRA States.
